Concrete surfaces are rarely perfect, especially in environments exposed to constant use, temperature changes, and structural movement. Cracks—whether superficial or deep—can compromise both the appearance and performance of a floor coating system if not addressed properly. Florida Paints offers two high-performance crack repair solutions designed to handle different types of damage, allowing contractors to choose the right approach based on the condition of the concrete.

Understanding the Type of Crack

Before selecting a repair method, it is important to evaluate the size and depth of the crack. Superficial cracks typically affect only the surface and do not require extensive preparation, while deeper or wider cracks demand a more structured repair process to ensure long-term stability. Matching the repair product to the type of crack is critical to achieving a durable and reliable result.

100% Solids Epoxy Crack Filler for Superficial Repairs

For surface-level cracks, Florida Paints offers a 100% solids epoxy crack filler. This product has a thicker, mastic-like consistency and is designed for filling superficial imperfections.

The system consists of Part A and Part B, which are mixed together before application. Once combined, the material can be applied directly into the crack, filling and sealing the surface. The cure time is approximately two hours, making it a reliable option when working on minor repairs that do not require immediate return to service.

This method is ideal for preparing surfaces ahead of coatings, ensuring that minor cracks do not telegraph through the final finish.

Polyurea Crack Filler for Deeper and Wider Cracks

For larger, more significant cracks, a faster and more robust solution is required. Florida Paints polyurea crack filler is specifically designed for deeper and wider repairs where structural integrity and speed are key factors.

The process begins by grinding out the crack to open it up and remove any weak or damaged material. Once the crack is properly prepared, it should be thoroughly cleaned to eliminate dust and debris. Silica sand is then used to help fill the void, providing additional structure and support for the repair.

After preparation, the polyurea crack filler—consisting of Part A and Part B—is applied over the area. This system cures rapidly, typically within 15 to 20 minutes, allowing for a much faster return to service compared to traditional repair methods.

Choosing the Right Repair Method

The primary difference between these two systems comes down to the type of crack and the required turnaround time. The epoxy crack filler is best suited for superficial repairs where a smooth, filled surface is the goal. In contrast, the polyurea crack filler is designed for deeper, wider cracks where strength, speed, and durability are essential.

Using silica sand in combination with the polyurea system further reinforces the repair, making it a dependable solution for high-traffic areas or projects with tight timelines.

Getting It Right from the Start

Proper crack repair is one of the most important steps in any floor coating project. Taking the time to assess the damage, prepare the surface, and select the appropriate product ensures that the final system performs as intended. Florida Paints provides solutions that allow contractors to handle both minor and major crack repairs with confidence, helping to create a solid foundation for any coating system that follows.
