Polyurea Primer System For New Garage
Installing a professional garage floor requires precision, proper materials, and a systematic approach to achieve a durable, high-performance surface. Florida Paints Polyurea Primer System paired with a Flo-Spartic polyaspartic topcoat delivers long-lasting results that withstand heavy foot traffic, vehicles, and daily wear. These systems are engineered specifically for contractors who demand consistent, professional-quality results on every project.
Preparing the Surface
For new garage slabs, preparation is key. While degreasing may not be necessary for a fresh concrete surface, grinding the floor ensures optimal adhesion for the polyurea primer. Proper surface preparation enhances bonding, prevents peeling or flaking, and contributes to a smooth, even finished coating.
Step 1: Mixing and Applying the Polyurea Primer
Begin with the pre-pigmented Polyurea Primer Part A in your selected color, such as light gray. Drill mix Part A for two minutes to achieve the ideal consistency. Next, combine Part A with Part B Activator in a clean bucket and mix by hand for two to three minutes until fully blended.
Once mixed, apply the polyurea primer immediately, as it begins curing quickly in the bucket. Use a squeegee and roller to evenly spread the coating across the surface. After applying, broadcast decorative flakes over the primer. For this project, the Abdominal flake system was used in a full broadcast to completely cover the floor. Allow the polyurea to dry for two to three hours before scraping and vacuuming any excess flakes.
Step 2: Applying the Polyaspartic Top Coat
After the primer has been prepared, the Flo-Spartic polyaspartic top coat is applied. Combine Part A and Part B in a clean mixing bucket and hand mix for 45 seconds to one minute. Only pour the amount needed for immediate application onto the floor, leaving the remainder in the bucket to extend working time. Polyaspartic coatings benefit from this method, as it maintains consistent workability.
Apply the top coat using a squeegee, followed by back rolling to achieve a uniform finish. Allow the polyaspartic to cure fully—24 hours for foot traffic and 72 hours for vehicle traffic—to achieve maximum performance, scratch resistance, chemical resistance, and UV stability.
