Repainting your exterior patio may seem daunting, but with the right preparation and products, it’s a manageable DIY project or a valuable upgrade to request from your contractor. Here’s how to do it right:

1. Clean and Prepare the Surface

Before repainting, your concrete patio must be properly cleaned and prepped. Remove dirt, debris, mildew, and old coatings using a concrete cleaner or power washer. If you’re repainting over an old, deteriorated finish, you may need to grind or acid-etch the surface for better adhesion.

  • Ensure the surface is fully dry.
  • Patch any cracks or imperfections with a compatible concrete patch.
  • Lightly sand smooth areas to improve surface bonding.

Proper surface prep is key to the success of both Tropicrete and Flo-Poxy applications.

2. Choose the Right Product for Your Finish

Decide what kind of finish you want:

  • For a satin, slip-resistant finish that withstands foot traffic, chlorine, and UV exposure, go with Tropicrete Color & Seal.
  • For a glossy, seamless, and ultra-durable surface that resists chemicals and abrasions, opt for Flo-Poxy.

Many homeowners choose to use Flo-Poxy as a primer or base layer, and Tropicrete as a decorative and protective topcoat for added versatility.

3. Apply Tropicrete or Flo-Poxy Like a Pro:

Applying Tropicrete:

  • Stir thoroughly before use.
Use a 3/8” nap roller or airless sprayer.
  • Apply two thin coats, allowing proper drying time between each (typically 4–6 hours).
  • Avoid heavy build-up to maintain a smooth, even appearance.

Applying Flo-Poxy:

  • Mix components A and B thoroughly.
  • Pour directly onto the surface and spread evenly with a notched squeegee.
  • Use a roller to finish and back-roll the surface for uniform thickness.
  • Work in small sections to ensure consistent application.

Allow the surface to cure fully (usually 24–48 hours) before exposing it to foot traffic or furniture.
